supercharged crx upgrade questions

Looking to add an intake, exhaust and possibly a cam gear to my JRSC'd '89 CRX. Its running the upgraded 8-10 psi of boost on a constant octane level of about 93-97 (race gas being mixed with crap 91 california stuff). D16A6 "si" motor.

-Ive read up a lot and have found that apparently a SRI would be the best choice for air coming in. Is this because the SC heats the hell outta the air whether its cold or warm anyway? Are there any suggestions on brands that are the most efficient?

-For the exhaust, will i need the piping diameter to be greater than 2.5? or is that sufficient for boost levels of 8-10 psi?

-is the cam gear worth putting in?

Also, would water cooling be a good idea? I have no problem with detonation because of the octane level, but I dont really know much about the water cooling process.

Last of all, I have the MSD boost timing master with the dial to retard/advance the timing. Is this the same thing as the Apexi S-AFC? or is the apexi air/fuel unit a totally different mod?

sorry for the length but my crx is starting to get boring and i need to make it faster...... ive got the fever and the cure is the wind in my hair....or just more mods....

Re: supercharged crx upgrade questions

any intake will work. like you mentioned, forced induction heats the air anyways, so a cold air intake type of system is a waste of space and money. You might look into water injection if you think you have a problem with too hot of air intake temperature.

2.5" exhaust should be fine for up to about 10psi of boost, although 3" is always better. "The best turbo(or supercharger) exhaust, is no exhaust at all"

As for cam gear, i'm sure a couple ponies could be found, but you'd really need a dyno to be sure.

As far as the Apex'i SAFC, basically all it is is a fuel controller. how it works is by taking the map sensor input, which the ECU uses along with engine rpm, to determine at what point in the fuel and ignition tables to read from. an AFC intercepts the MAP sensor input, and changes it, to fool the ECU into thinking there is more or less air coming into the engine, so it gives it more or less fuel. Its a cheap way to control fuel, but it has the side effect of also changing your timing. (which you really have no control over) your MSD BTM controls the electronic advance of the distributor to retard the timing by a pressure input.

You might look into getting the car tuned. You can do it yourself with free editors like turboedit, or uberdata, crome, or others. You can also go the more expensive route and get a standlone like hondata or something similar. get the car on a dyno and tune it for maximum power.

After that, if you're still craving more power, look into blower modifications. the JRSC can be modified by certain individuals to run over 10psi. (just swapping on a different pulley at those boost levels can easily damage the supercharger & housing).

More boost & built internals always equals MORE POWER!!

good luck.
