Post Transmission or throttle malfunction??

Well...I hit a curb today!!! How did this happen?!?!?!

I was slowly pulling into a parking spot, lightly pressing down on the accelerator as the car slowly crawled forward. All of a sudden, without any warning and doing on my part, the car jerked violently forward and accelerated. I slammed on my breaks and ultimately hit the curb doing extensive damage.

I have a 2002 TLS and had the transmission replaced just 2 months ago because it died on me at ~40K miles.

Could this issue be related to my transmission problem? I was told by the dealership that the transmission they replaced 2 monthas ago was not new and one that was reconditioned....to keep costs down since they have to replace so many!!!

Does anyone have any ideas? has this ever happened to anyone before?

Re: Transmission or throttle malfunction??

Either you're a terrible driver or the dealer screwed something up. What was the reason given for the death of the first transmission? Was it replaced under warranty?

Well, I'm sure you know that the second generation TLs have a history of tranmission issues....

The transmission was replaced under warranty...there was only ~35K miles on it and before it died, it was slipping quite frequently. I have been told that the transmissions they replace are "reconditioned", therefore not new.

However, this issue might be completely unrelated to the transmission. so far, there guess is that perhaps the throttle had malfunctioned...but I am still waiting to hear.

1999 Acura TL throttle malfunction

My mother owns a 1999 Acura TL and she has had the throttle unexpectedly open up while parking 3 times now so you're not alone. I'm sure it has something to do with the computer controlled throttle system. Anyways I hope this might catch more attention from other people who have had the same problem and maybe can offer advice on how to fix it.

You know this happened to me before. I was approching a red light and the rpm were stuck at 3000 rpm. I quickly shifted it into nutruel. I put it back into drive pulled aside and had it towed to the dealership. when they got a chance to look at it it was fine.Go figuire. However they were to lazy to look for the problem. gave it back the next day and said they didnt find the problem. On the way home it happened again. So i pulled over and noticed the trottle was open and the cable had tention. When i got home I started my own investigation. I took apart the lower panal and traced the throttle cable. I found the problem. A bolt had rattled loose from the alarm bracket and was pinned against the cable and the firewall not allowing the cable to release and it had extra tenstion.
