Unhappy Power Seat Belt Problems....

93 Escort GT

The Drivers Side Power belt isnt working properly. The previous owner had unhooked it, but it seems that I need it working for a safety check. When I connected the wire, and opened the door, the belt moved forward perfectly. No grinding or anything. But when I close the door, it will not go back. After searching the web about these belts, I figured id check out the door switch. The switch itself is fine, I checked it with my multimeter. Resistance is infinite when switch is open and 0 when switch is pressed.

I dont even hear the motor running when I close the door, its not even trying to move back. My passenger side works perfectly, and as I pointed out earlier, it moves forward fine.

I have no idea what to check next. The Haynes manual has NOTHING on the belts.

Anyone had this problem? Any ideas?

Thanks
Richard

Seat Belts

Had the same problem with my 92 Escort GT. The only way to fix it is to replace it. One good thing, the track price has dropped.

Re: Power Seat Belt Problems....

Rich, the belts on a 93 run on a cable that has a plastic coating. Mine got a rough spot in it and when ti moved to the front it wouldn't retract due to the rough spot. I'm replacing the cable cause the track and motor work fine. the big problem with this is the ferrules on the end of the cables aren't readily available and ford only sells the whole system (in two very expensive pieces) but when the ferrules are done it will work fine. Check yours out for this.

Seat Belt

Hi,
I just went to Pick-A-Part. I removed a track and motor from a 91 Escort GT. I paid $10.00. It works great. It sure beats the price I paided from the dealer.
