Alternator issues *updated*
I was at Autozone getting my charging system tested and the guy (we will call him AZDude) said that the battery was fine but the alt was only charging about 2.5A. AZDude said the computers where down so he couldn't reference one for me so I came home and got the numbers, headed back with the part numbers for AZDude and he hooked me up with a Duracraft (any good?) 60A alternator.
I get home and rip the old junk one out (Mitsubishi, about 2 years old) and put the new one in. I reconnected the two wires for the alternator, belt on nice and tight, reconnected the positive terminal for the battery. Woohoo time to test it out. I get in the car, turn the key and get nothing. I've got no power anywhere in the vehicle, except for my four-way flashers. No horn, headlights, anything. Brake lights don't work either. The battery has a mostly full charge, I took it up because the headlights would dim when I turned the blower on for the heater. So I caught it early before it stranded me. (No lights on the dash yet) Could I have toasted something when I took it apart or the low power to my accessories burned up?

Re: Alternator issues
Add this to the "I'm an idiot for not checking fuses" file. I smoked the 60A fuse for the battery. (Not sure how though...)

Re: Alternator issues
I seem to talk in this thread more than anybody else...
If anyone is still reading this, I need some more advice ;P Got the new alternator on and it works great, at idle... I was on my way to work and went to pass someone, and when I kicked it down my charge light came on. As soon as I completed the pass and engine back to normal speed, it turned off. Now whenever I kick the pedal down and engine speed gets above 4500rpm, the light comes on. Any ideas? Battery and new alternator tested fine at Autozone thismorning.
