Pushing in clutch starts car
I have a 93 wagon with 136k mi.
When I push the clutch in all the way it will start the car regardless of the key, I let off the clutch and when I press it in again to put into gear I get a grinding noise???? Second and not as important as above now but when driving along (mostly at highway speed) when I let off the gas a bit it starts chugging and shaking if i floor it and get the rpm up it will smooth out (hard to keep it at 65) Best regards Jeff |

Re: Pushing in clutch starts car
Hey Everyone.
I am totally new to this forum and just read Jeffs posting. I also have a Ford wagon 1993 and just experienced the same problem with the clutch yesterday. I am not shure what it could be, but I think it has something to do with a loose wire or so?? I recognised that everytime I am having that problem the 'brake light' and other lights light up on the lower dashbord! If anyone would have a suggestion or so, that would be great. Cheers. Nani |

a short is somewhere, cause your clutch to engage your starter...kinda funny to hear, but sorry guys, I have no clue where to go for what, on this problem

there is a switch connected to the back of the clutch that tells the puter when the clutch is engaged. It's supposed to stop the engine from starting while the clutch is out so people don't crank the engine and jump through their living room. I've never had this problem but it sounds like your ignition is constantly keyed, something may be gummed up in the key whole causing something to stick. your starter solenoid could also be stuck on causing this to happen. Wish I could tell you where to go but I've never had this problem before.

Re: Pushing in clutch starts car
Hey Everyone.
Thank you veeery much for all the suggestions. I think it is a shortcut, too, somewhere. My roommates though told me that it also could be some kind of selfmade wireing. So if someone wants to steel the car it will not start the usual way?? They think I might set it off somehow? The guy that owned the car before was a mechanic, so who knows? The funny thing is that it is doing the 'fuel-cutout' thing, I tried to reset it with the button in the back, but it was already on reset. Well, I guess I will have someone take a look at it. Cheers. the guy at Napa when I called on the ECU ($900) after i picked myself up off the ground said it sounded like the ignition, apparently their is a small plastic type box at the end of the wiring that has plastic pins in it and tells the car what position the key is in and allows the proper response, he thinks one of those pins are stuck, this is beyond be taking it to my mech to look at..
