tornadoair ki-70 in TB
I've just installed a tornadoair ki-70 into my stock intake and found it to give me a little extra boost. Also cruising on the hwy feels effortless. Anyone else have similar feedback?

Re: tornadoair ki-70 in TB
They are useless and actually disrupt airflow at higher RPM's.
Have you verified the changes with anything objective? Dragstrip? GTech? Etc? There are a lot of products that people install in their vehicles and swear they feel the difference...only to see no or negative gains on a dyno/track. The Tornado products have been shown to reduce performance, or in the best case, have minimal impact, in everyone I know who has tested them before... YMMV |

Re: tornadoair ki-70 in TB
I've got better better milage and power. My accerlation is better. Of course if you modified the intake and exhaust, this may not be the better product.

Re: tornadoair ki-70 in TB
LOL! First, under what conditions did your automotive class conduct this comparison? Where the test parameters the same from test to test?
My own tests, and many others on the f-body list, have shown on the dyno that these "Tornado" things are at BEST useless, and in MOST cases, cause a loss of 5-7hp in the mid to upper rpm ranges. The most efficient flow into an engine is laminar, where the air is stratified...NOT where it is turbulent and disrupted. Don't you think, with all the EPA and other government regs, if a simple device like this could yield 5+ extra MPG, ALL the manufacturers would run one? They don't. Any knowledgable owner wouldn't either. Nuff said. BTW, do you have any affiliation with this company, or sell them online? Just wondering.... |

Re: tornadoair ki-70 in TB
No affiliation. It was my community college class wondering if the thing was crap and our instructor suggested we order a couple throw them into 2 of my classmate's cars and see what happens. It was a month long test. Dyno, Before and after tank fills of trips to Vegas blah, blah.
Not one complaint on BB site about them either. Wonderin if you work for Chevron, Shell or the like? BTW did you really ask me if do I think the manufacturer and the goverment would look out for us and hook us all up with one to do the right thing? Back at ya with a huge LOL....... |

Re: tornadoair ki-70 in TB
OK....I'll bite
What were the before and after of the dyno tests, both in terms of peak and avg HP and Tq? Most decent dyno's will also give you BSFC numbers where you can calculate efficiency. If you have hard numbers that show a gain from this device, they will be the first I've ever seen with a gain in any area ever. LOL on the working for the oil company thing. I don't want to digress too far, as this is an automotive forum, but I really hope you don't buy in to that conspiracy crap about the oil companies, 100mpg carbs, magnets that can increase your mileage 50mpg, etc.... As far as what experience I do have, I actually have worked for the government in one of their major research labs. Yes, the manufacturers are under a TON of pressure to increase average fuel economy of their cars and trucks (CAFE standards) by the govt. Believe it or not, if the gov't had its way, you would all be driving little crapboxes like they have in Europe Do the right thing? WE (consumers) demand the vehicles we do....and they build them. How many people bought EV1's or even the Prius or other electric/dual fuel cars? VERY few. We want fast, powerful, BIG cars and trucks to haul us around. The more power they have....and still be streetable, THAT is the right thing for me ![]() Just as a point of reference......GM is now rolling out in the 05 LSx V8 engines, displacement on demand. The ONLY reason they did this, was to increase the fuel economy of the motors...and even then, it will only be a 5-7% increase. They spent MILLIONS retooling plants, redesigning blocks, rewriting code, etc....all for this minimal increase. It IS a big thing. So, when you say a car that, say, gets 20mpg gets a 5mpg increase (25%!) from a $.10 hunk of sheet metal.... I get a wee bit skeptical. YMMV.....literally ![]() Have a great new years in any case!!!!! |

Re: tornadoair ki-70 in TB
I've been using tornado on my TB off and on. Been comparing the difference. Without the piece of metal in my intake, I got lower milage. The increase milage out weights air restriction some claims.

You should check out aircraft engines if you think that is true. |
