305 needs to warm up in July, runs great warm

I have an 85 c10 with a 305 and a quadrajet 4 barrel. New timing chain and gear. exhaust, tune up, pickup coil and vacuum lines ( not sure if they are all ran perfect since i can't find info on it). Truck runs great when it is warmed up, but I have to let it warm up for about 2 minutes before I can even take off and then still I cant' let it eat until it warms up more. The choke seems to be OK. It has an automatic choke. Also the choke sticks after it cools off, I lhave to manually close it, then it opens ok when it warms up. Is it definetly the pulloff bad or could it be in the linkage? It feels like it is sticking on some linkage. Thanks

It's kinda hard to understand your problem.

You say the choke is automatic and works OK. Then you say you have to manually close it. You ask if the linkage or pull-off could be bad, then you say the linkage sticks?

All choke linkage should be free from binding. When vehicle is cold, depress pedal to set the choke. Choke flap should have decent amount of resistance if you tried to open it. Manually push pull-off rod into vacuum can as far as it will go. You should have approx. 1/4" space between flap and airhorn. Adjust accordingly after start-up.

More than likely you have a faulty choke. That would be the only reason I can see it would run bad when cold.

Good luck...

thanks, it does open up when i close it when it is cold. But it doesn't always set when I depress the pedal and when the choke is closed, it doesn't really have any resistance.
