plz help...what causes this??
ok everyone i had a problem where my clutch wouldnt engage...but it went away but now it is back and here is what i have to tell you...
when i push the clutch does it goes in every now and then....but when it doesnt go in...the clutch pedal seems...well i can push it to the floor real easily and nothing happens....it seems when the clutch doesnt want to go in the pedal is mussy and like there is not force pushing back....becasue when it does go into gear...you can feel a little force behind it... could my problem be the slave cylinder? or clutch master cylinder? or maybe it is the damn pedal (im starting to think about that) its self.... please tell me if any of these above go with my problems... ![]() ohhh by the way here is some info on the car....87 gt 5 speed (geartag) 68,000 miles...and if there is anything else just ask about the car i will tell you plz could ya tell me...i ahve to get it fixed by this weekend...plus school is coming up...=( *edit i think that i need to adjust the linkage cable or something along them lines *double edit ...should the clutch be moving side to side and back and froth real easy? i think that the bushing is wore out or something Last edited by Midnightryder; 07-30-2004 at 11:03 PM. |

You mean the pedal is moving side to side? Then you're right, that's a worn bushing and should be changed. The clutch trouble though, now that you describe the lack of "force" in the pedal, is 100% hydraulic, I'm SURE of it. Pump the clutch about 10 times and check the slave cylinder for seeping fluid around the pushrod. If it's wet, replace the slave cylinder. If it's dry, replace the master. Leaking seals won't show fluid seepage on the master since the fluid just sneaks back up in the reservoir. (unless the rear seal is going, then you'd have fluid on the clutch pedal and probaby eating a hole in the carpet.)

hey rag or anyone....would a bad bushing cause bad engagement and disengagement??? and do you know if i could get it in like any auto store or something???
where is the slave cylinder located? but i dont think that is the problem... i think it is the pedal itself...a really bad worn bushing i have to pump the clutch to get it into first...but usually goes through the other gears good when driving it.... and the sometimes when i take it out of the gear...it seems it doesnt want to come out ya know what i mean plz help...i need to get it fixed ina weeks times....8 days...well a little over a week lol |

well i think that i eliminate the pedal everyone.....
it is either the master clutch cylinder (which my dad and i think is leaking....and we found a little evidence) or the slave cylinder which we really didnt see anything seaping out and it was not wet.... my dad said the same thing happened when his mustang (awsome car...87 fastback gt 5.0 with mods) when the clutch master cylinder went bad on it...he had to pump it up to get some pressure so he could actually drive the damn thing... so anyone could it be the clutch master cylinder?!?!? ....and should i just replace the slave cylinder becasue you know it will probably go out next

Yea the problem from the get-go has always pointed to the master. I bet changing it will fix the problem, but the pedal bushing while not something to panic over is a nuisance and should be fixed. Changing the slave "just because" isn't a bad idea... but since they get pricey you may want to wait until you have the spare cash.
*Both master and slave rebuild kits are available at just about any parts store and are cheaper then a complete unit. You end up needing extra tools to do a rebuild but if you have them already you save about 50%. http://www.secureleadercom.com/fssto...Bit=3&dept=103 ^^ The Fiero Store clutch section... the prices look really good, much less then what my local parts store quotes.

i didnt mean to sound mean and not take your advice by saying it was the master clutch cylinder....but hey i am a kid and we usually dont listen...=) lol so sorry and thanks dude... yeah the fierostore.com is awsome i usually get a lot of shit from there...tell you the truth i am looking into those sprint headers and an orcelt exhaust system and a msd igination coil....and maybe some other things.... |

Hey, you did the right thing... you eliminated all other possible causes first. The most obvious isn't ALWAYS right, even though it was here
Reminds me of the time my wife - well, girlfriend at the time... lost the speedo on her Grand Prix. Since it was the dead of winter and our garage isn't heated we took it to the dealer to have it taken care of. They instantly blamed it on the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) and slapped in a new one. Well, it was a no go.... they ended up checking the wires and found one was broken and soldered it. We walked away from the whole thing for $50 - the service manager agreed that had they taken 5 minutes to check the wires before assuming the sensor was bad they wouldn't have changed it. So we got a new sensor out of it - free of charge. So props to you for making sure you knew exactly what needed fixing. By the way.... try not to drive the car until you fix it. Shifting with the clutch still engaged is hard on the synchronizers and will wear them out sooner.... and the only way to rebuild a Fiero gearbox is to totally remove it... not fun.

well i havent really driven it around it has been sitting for a couple of days now (go outside and start it ya know)...but one thing i have to drive it to the gas station...(running real low)
yeah i dont think that i want to fix the gearbox lol...plus i dont think i would have the time with schoool (last week....but good thing is this is the last year yayayayaya!) and shit.... anyways thanks and i will let ya know when i get the thing finished...=) then i'll tell ya how good she runs.... that was good that you got the new sensor for free...becasue my luck i wouldnt have gotten it like that... |
