What did i do to my tranny?
HI GUY'S,
Glad i found this site,i have an "86"taurus wagon with40,000 miles on new tranny,i changed the fluid and filter yesterday and now it takes a while to upshift and when it does it's kinda hard then when i deccelerate to stop at 15 mph it will jerk hard when downshifting,i checked fluid level while hot and was overfilled by about 2 quarts(drove it 10 miles this way)so drained out to proper level and got a little better but still not completely gone, anybody have any thoughts on whats going on. by the way the aftermarket filter i bought was bigger than the one i took out, could this cause harm. also i decided to change everything cause once in a while after sitting in hot weather it would take about 15 to 20 seconds to go in gear but only once in a while. thanks for your help zert97. |

When u say bigger how do u mean? sometimes they make them different. If the pickup tube was not the same depth this can sometimes cause problems. Other things that ive seen cause this is wrong type of fluid so what type of fluid did u use and was it the recommened stuff since friction is a big thing in the tranny, ive used approprate friction modifiers to remedy this on a few times. Over filling it usually does not cause long term effects but it may not have been over full, if the pickup tube was not deep enough it would not have been ciculating the fluid and u would get a higher reading since it was not in the tourqe converer and other places as well which is also why they say check hot. Boy i love this forum. I just bot my sable yesterday but Ive been working on Fords for way to long lol but not for a dealer but for a fleet.
