bad shifting

i got an automatic 97 prelude non sh and the 1st to 2nd gear shift is terrible. when i'm in regular automatic (not sport shift) and the gear is about to shift into 2nd, the rpms rev unusually high then kicks into 2nd. this happens most of the time. if i accelerate slowly, it doesn't happen. moderate to fast acceleration--it happens. if i use the sport shift i can somewhat control it. i'll accelerate, let go of the gas, shift into 2nd (which takes about 1.5 secs--from when i shift to when it engages), then hit the gas but it doesn't work all the time. is the tranny going or does it just need a flush? i have about 105k miles on it. also, i've noticed when i gun it off the line it feels laggy, like it doesn't snap my neck at all, but after about 6k rpm, this magical boost kicks in and the car flies. any idea as to why?

The 97 SS transmission sux it has many many problems and the magical boost is VTEC. Honda engines love the high RPMs. Once your in the high RPMs your good to go speed wise. Get a lightweight Flywheel and a powerpulley set and you'll rev a lot faster.

Re: bad shifting

Dude u r one lucky guy whose SS tranny didn't fail till 105k but yeah now its going downhill...... a flush won't do it..... u may need to replace it in the near future....... I got an SS and it has like 62k on it... and I also have the same problem but its not that noticeable..... only I can tell it cuz its my car.... so start saving for a new tranny..... or go for a swap.....
