H22a dream is commin true!

Ok so i've posted here earlier about a H22a swap into my CRX. After months of researching i've found exactly what I need. Now I have a B16a into my CRX right now, which elimates all of my troubles. Im going to be buying a B series to H series adapter plate from someone on Honda-Tech.com, and use my current tranny with a H22a longblock im gonna pick up soon. Now from the previous person who has done this, its only 9 pounds heavier in the front, due to the b series transmission. Now the h22a longblock is gonna cost me $1,000 and i can sell my B16a longblock (type r cams), for $1,050 just for the longblock, and the adapter is going to cost me $550ish, then buy the 3 HCP Mounts $275.
So I really dont need anything else, I already have the axels I need, P13 ECU, everything since I have the B16a swap. So H22a is only going to cost me under $800! So the final answer before I buy some parts.... Keep the B or Go H? I just want some opinions. My future plan is to build the motor, then boost it from there.

Well it sounds like a good deal. Just remember you need a good suspension to keep the power on the ground. I'd suggest to find a tranny with lsd or get an aftermarket one. IF it was me i'd just keep the b16 and boost it.

I heard that the problem with the h22 in a 88-91 civic/crx body is that it sits on a bad angle, not that its too heavy, since it sits on a strange angle it screws up your handling, I don't know for sure, I just remember reading it somewhere....

wait so you'll only gain 7 lbs if you go H? If I'm understanding you. 7 pounds could be made up with aftermarket header. Go H then you can get all the extra power with no down sides hell thats a win win.

Well see, from my research, heres what it came from... Originally no one used the B series tranny, and the difference between the B and H was the transmission size and weight. Now if ya used the H series tranny, you have to push the motor forward a little bit for the mounts to set up and everything, more weight leaning forward makes this bad handling. With the b series tranny, that elimates where the engine is gonna lay. Its only a few pounds heavier as well.

Actually its 9 pounds, my mistake. Still, aint bad at all, and your right, can be easily made up.

The h22 (with it's tranny) sits back not forwards. But that's weird you're using a b-series tranny. I still vote h22. Hope the swap works out for you.

It has more weight leaning forward than a b series engine though due to the transmission of the H22a. Yah but actually, the B series tranny should work better than the original h22a.

Re: H22a dream is commin true!

i vote H22a, bolt ons and some traction help = high 12's.

You should be able to keep whatever mounts you are using for the B16 currently, i would give that a shot before buying the HCP's.

I'd go H22, but i'm already way over my head into my boosted SOHC project (I'm aiming for low 12's on pump gas and DOT tires, so you can imagine the $$ sunk in here )

I still think b16 tranny is a bad idea for the h22. Shorter gears on a motor thats high on torque causes it spin alot. I'd suggest you go with gsr tranny. Longer gears but its not too long. I think its a perfect tranny for the h22. U said you gonna boost right? Definitely dump the b16 tranny.

I dont plan to boost immediatly. I'll be sure to upgrade the tranny before I boost for sure, going to build the motor first as well.

Re: Re: H22a dream is commin true!

Good luck with that.

How do you plan on using B16 mounts with the H22? I realize the tranny mount would be the same with the B16 tranny, but what about the other mounts? An H22 can't exactly just sit up like the B16 or D15 does.

GSR block for your current setup gets my vote.

Re: H22a dream is commin true!

is there room to boost the H22 in the 4th gen? heard there wasn't much room for anything else after dropping it in

Interesting, must lean different than being put in a 5th gen. I helped my buddy put one in his 4dr a year an ahlf ago and it leans more to the back. Probably because of the difference in the way it mounts up (well obviously... but you get what i mean.)
