Question RX-7 FC Newbie

Ok well I started looking at FC RX-7s a few days ago because...well they were cheap. I first saw a FC when I started watching initial D and loved it. I had been wanting a late 80s BMW 325i but they are hard to find in stick, good shape, and with the i engine. So I am widening out. Heres what I want to know. Is there a site I can go to to find out more about rotary engines and how they work? Next is the NA engine just as strong as the turbo one? Because if so I would just buy a NA and put a turbo kit on it. Next how much hp can I hope to see out of the motor with out doing forged internals? I would like to get a little over 300whp out of the motor and then I think I would be happy. Sorry for all the questions but I don’t know a whole lot about RX-7s yet. So any info you guys could give me would be great.

http://travel.howstuffworks.com/rotary-engine9.htm

Always an exellent place to learn how stuff works..You'll find everything there is to know about rotary engines there.

http://www.fasterfords.com/mazda/rx7.htm

A nice little chart you might find useful. Statistics about the 1st gen, 2 gen, and 3 gen RX-7s...blah blah..

Im pretty sure they dont make Turbo kits for them..but I have heard they make supercharged kits..but for the amout you have to pay..which is frikken ridiculous..I dont think its worth it.

What else...Turbos don't last as long as N/As do. If thats what you mean by which one is "stronger" Turbos around 150k..if im not mistaken...and a well cared for n/a will get you over 200k. But as far as performace.. TurboII > n/a

Re: RX-7 FC Newbie

Thanks for the links they helped a lot. Oh and sorry I didnt clarify when I said which is stronger. I mean you know how on some cars they give the turbo model a engine with stonger parts. An example would be the nissan SR20DE vs the SR20DET. The DET has stronger internals and such so if you wanted to turbo the DE you would have to "beef" up the DE. So thats what I ment, is the NA not as "beefed" up parts Strength wise as the turbo2?

Re: RX-7 FC Newbie

i have a friend who has an 86 rx7 na with a motor that was rebuilt by the woman that owned it before he got it and she had the paper work to prove it. i used to own one of the same model but mine had alot more miles than his(about 225,000) and it was on its last leg but his has more power than any other na that i have came across, and only has about 75,000 miles and was one of the few that they released with the back seats. it like so many others that i've seen needs a clutch but last i heard he was asking about $1000.00 for it. If you haven't already found what you're looking for you can email me at [email protected]

Re: RX-7 FC Newbie

Sorry, but I hate these types of posts. Something like "I want an RX-7 omg i heard they are fast I want 300RWHP how do I do it." If you find yourself asking how to make all that power, then this car is not for you.

Re: RX-7 FC Newbie

MBTN makes a good point

learn cars in general, pick a few to learn in detail, and deside from there based on what you know

Re: RX-7 FC Newbie

300 is doable, just gotta go turbo for it.
not to mention drop some cash for some porting.

yeah the seven is all about pretty affordable sporty car.... and hatred of pistons.
