How Fast Is Yours!!!

Hi there, i am from the UK and am thinking of getting a Civic. Do you think it is worth paying the extra for a Type-R or just get a 1.6 Vti??? How the best way to start modifying the car make it fast or make it look good???

Cheers

Welcome to AF. Well the most effective way to make power is to start with a B-Series engine, such as the one that comes in the Type-R. I believe the Vti is a 1.6 SOHC Vtec sporting 140hp (higher compression in Japan). Although the engine has potential, not nearly as much as the Type-R.

After making your decision, you will probably want to start by swapping out the Intake, Header, and Exhaust with aftermarket parts. You get a substancial amount of power for a fair price (I paid $600 for I/H/E.)

As for the suspension, a cheap and effective way to alter your ride height would be through Coilovers. I have Skunk2 Coils on my car, and they ride excellent, even with nearly a 3" drop.

All-in-all, everything you do to your car is your personal choice, thats what makes your car UNIQUE and ORIGINAL (hint: don't buy 'altezzas').

Good Luck!

If your gonna buy a civic, you might as well buy one that has potential such as the Type R.

Thank for the advice. The only problem here is the insurance cost between getting a Type-R or a 1.6Vti. Plus there are not many about and the prices for them are quiet high. A 1997 Type-R cost about $15000 and a 1996 1.6Vti cost about $6000. So there is a big difference in price. Then i got to think of insurance which also cost a bomb over here.

U can start off with a 1.6 sohc with 130 hp. Just up the bore to around 84mm and the stroke to 94mm, Put some nice rods, etc. on it and there you are.

simple and ez, just get a regular civic (as you would call it the 'vti") and install the type R engine in it... its still a civic, isnt it?

Good point. Then you could have yourself a nice little sleeper and what the insurance company doesn't know, won't hurt them:evillaugh

Exclamation

Get the VTi! The VTi is the 1.6l DOHC engine with 160hp. It's the same engine the US gets in the Si's. So don't spend that much money on a Type-R and get a VTi. If you put on a Jackson Racing Supercharger on the VTi, you'll kill every Type-R you'll see on the road with less money!
