Is It Possible

Im wondering if its possible to convert the civic to all wheel drive?Yes I know anything is possible with the right amount of cash.Could you take an S2000 rear end and put it on the car with many custom mods porobably and convert to all wheel drive?

Re: Is It Possible

You answered your own question; yes it can be done. But you have to have great mechanical ability or know someone who does, and $ to spend; or else everyone would be doing it. It's certainly no B-series swap. There have been some magazine articles of people doing it, maybe search for them and see if it's worth the $$$, time, and effort.

Re: Is It Possible

So really its going to take alot of custom fabrication.Ive not really studied into it yet but if I could pull it off that would be great.

Re: Is It Possible

Go to Japan and ask around for the Honda Beagle. It's similar to a Civic Wagon but with AWD. I believe there are also some late-model Civics sedans (not sure if they are labeled Ferio or not) that come with AWD.

There's a shot of a Honda Beagle. Definitely an old one.

Either way, it's gonna cost you quite a bit of money. Might be cheaper to just go buy an early generation Evo instead.

The Honda 97-(00?) Crv has a B series motor and optional Awd tranny. You can't have mine, but I'm sure that would be one of the *eaiser* ways to get AWD, considering the system would bolt up to a B20b/z, and since most the b series engines are swapable, you might be able to hook the tranny right up to alot of others.

The beagle is a good idea; except they aren't here, so that would definately cause delays and shipping costs.

The s2000 uses a (f20c?) motor (I'm pretty sure), I don't know how the tranny would hook up, or if you could hook the tranny up at all. It would definatly take alot more ingenuity then the crv or beagle swap. Both beat by buying a new car...

I looked around and found that there is a 1985-1991 civic Wagon with 4wd? I've not heard of it, but then again, I wasn't planning on buying a car in 91... I think thats what jajimo was talking about.

You're right on the F20C... and the engine is longitudinal mounted. That's a big difference from what the current car has. Not to mention, F20Cs are expensive little engines. I don't know what the dimensions are on the rear drive axle of either the CRV or Beagle, I just figured the Beagle would be closer. Now, if you want to be a pimp, buy a Beagle, do an engine swap in that, and then turbo it! No one will ever suspect it...

Re: Is It Possible

back in the older civic days, like around 87-88 there was a 4wd civic wagovan, powered by a d-series motor, that 4wd system however had terrible problems even keeping up wirh the d-series, so adding a b to it, would cause even further problems. that system however would more than likely be the easiest to bolt on, whereas the crv unit might take a little more futzing around with.

I read up on someone who wanted to upgrade their 4WD Civic wagon. Heard lots of suggestions of using a ZC instead of a B-series, but you'd still have the stock transmission, axles, and rear-differentials to replace.

Not worth the money in my opinion =/

I LOVED my Beagle! Hauled my kayak all around northern Japan and wasn't a slouch when it came to driving down the beach looking for a place to launch.

I think it was a 1995. Ran great when I bought it in 2001 for about $4000. I wish they sold them in the states, but I settled for a CR-V when I got back...

Just slightly off topic, but does anyone else find it funny that Honda would name a car 'Beagle'?
