96 Z71 Removal - Catalytic Converter

I purchased a 96 Z71 with the 5.7ltr. When I purchased the truck it did not have any catalytic converters and it does have the 02 sensors in front and back. I sometimes have a heavy foot and I just checked my gas mileage and it is approx. 10 miles to the gallon. I also notice that it just does not have the low end torque my 00 5.3ltr has (not even close).

My question is - can the missing catalytic converters do this?? The truck has 150,000 miles. I just changed the waterpump, belt, hoses, plugs (AC Delco Rapid Fire), wires (Bosch), All the fluids i.e. T. case, transmission and differentials. I plan want to install the K&N air flow system but I just dont know if it will make that much of a differance.

Re: 96 Z71 Catalytic Converter

I dont know yet I am installing them this weekend. I have been told that they are a good replacement. It will cost me about 50.00 to have them installed.
