Angry 99 Grand Caravan liftgate lock problem

My liftgate lock initially would not unlock, and now is in a locked position with the door open - so I can't shut the liftgate completely. I took the back panel off, removed the lock and looked it over. It doesn't appear to be a physical problem (no broken paprts or blockage). My guess is that for safety or security reasons, the wire running to the latch mechanism (the VTA switch?) is telling the latch not to let go despite turning the liftgate key or using the vacuum unlock. All of the fuses under the hood look OK. Can someone tell me how I can correct this problem?

Re: 99 Grand Caravan liftgate lock problem

My van is considerably older than yours. 5 yrs, but if it is anything like mine the tailgate lock was opened by a solenoid. it seems like it was "going out" when it would not open before. Your gate lock closed and the solenoid is not responding to unlock.

Just thinking out loud, but I will review my manual today after work.
