need advise on 2g maf in a 1g
i have a 2g maf that i want to put in my 91 gsx. i have read all the vfaq's on the install. i know it is pretty straight forward but, can't i just wire in the new plug without cutting off the old plug. if i used a vampire connector, i know that is not the correct term but that is what i have always referred to them as. the only diff. is switching 2 wires around..right? i am also running the stock turbo...i know i need a diff. intake as well. will a 2g intake work with the stock turbo?

Re: need advise on 2g maf in a 1g
I thought about doing it with tap-splice connectors, but didn't want to risk one wire rattling loose while driving.
I ended up just cutting the wires. Go to www.dejontool.com and get the intake made for the 2g MAF to fit a 1g.

Re: need advise on 2g maf in a 1g
Vampire taps are an acceptable name, the technical name is "insulation displacement." But I would use them. Now, that doesnt mean your idea is no good! I would just remove a section of insulation from the stock wire an inch or two from the stock plug, and solder your new lead on. I do this all the time when I dont want to make permanent changes.
Another option is to get a bad 1g MAF and steal its connector. Then with your 2g harness side connector, made an "adapter" that simply plugs in. This is the cleanest way to go, and friends of mine have done it. Works well. And if you switch back, not only is there no trace of the 2g MAS ever being there, but the adapter will be worth a couple bucks to someone else that wants to do this.
