Unhappy chevy berretta starts up but stalls HELP

We got a 1989 beretta for my son. It has a 2.0 in it and has 30,000 miles and had one owner. My son drove it for 2 months with no problems and then it would start up but it would stall. Everytime you try to start it, it stays running longer and then after a few times of starting it will sit and idle but it idles up and down, you don't have accellator control. When you put it in gear it will stall but if you keep pushing the gas pedal it will go but you have to keep pumping the pedal and then after a while of doing that it stalls. It starts right up everytime you try to start it but it acts like something is shutting off the fuel. A mechanic checked it out and said that the computer was bad. He also said he checked the fuel perssure and said it was good. We replaced the plugs, wires, cap, fuel filter on it. We replaced the computer and it still does the same thing. HELP!
Now the car is flooding out when you start it up, it won't run and the fan comes on as soon as you try to start the car. PLEASE I NEED HELP!!

Hey I have a 94 Berretta that had the same problem theres a gasket in the intake manifold you could possibly have a air leak there and that causes the fan to come on. I've had my car bought brand new and it now has 200,000 miles. If you have more questions ask I probably fixed it on my car. Good luck.

Re: chevy berretta starts up but stalls

Try changing the coolant temp sensor. A bad one could be telling the computer the engine's temp was below -40F!!! This would cause it to pump tons more fuel into the engine then needed, causing your flooding issue. The fan on older cars is controlled by a separate direct wired temp switch, but on newer ones the computer turns it on and off based on the CTS reading. I don't know exactly when GM changed over so if you find the CTS was bad and after it's changed the engine runs fine but the fan still kicks on right away, you have a separate fan switch that needs changing.
It's common for older cars that have sat a lot to develop bad CTS sensors and fan switches. If this is indeed your problem, you should also flush the entire cooling system ASAP to keep excessive mineral deposits from doing any more damage.

74-79 Ramcharger or 100, slant or no motor - not interested in v8 - Overdrive 4 is a big plus, NO hopeless rust buckets!!!
3Rd gen F body floor pans/camaro door skin (L)

Why is it I see so many "Proud to be an American" bumper stickers on the backs of cars made in Japan or Korea??????
