Question A/C Fan Changing Output Under Acceleration

Greetings,
I tried searching for an answer for this problem prior to posting but was unsuccessful.

1998 Taurus SE

Living in Arizona at this time of year requires the A/C to be running whenever the car is. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that when I would accelerate from a stoplight or if I'm speeding up to pass someone, the air would stop blowing out of the A/C vents. You can hear the fan is still running, but nothing is coming out of the vents. What is the cause of this and what do I need to do to correct it.

thank you in advance for your time and suggestions.

Re: A/C Fan Changing Output Under Acceleration

I believe this is a normal operation. When the demand for power to the drive train is increased the A/C compressor will be shut down automatically to reduce power consumption from the motor. It's possible it could be out of whack some but I'm not sure what you'd have to do to correct it. If it turns out to be a fixable problem, please post back.

Re: A/C Fan Changing Output Under Acceleration

Steve McLean,
The A/C - heat unit is vacuum controlled and under acceleration you're running out of vacuum causing the diverter doors to change position. This can happen in any vehicle that has a vacuum system, just depends upon how long the engine vacuum is held down by acceleration or a hard pull. If you trace the lines down you will find a vacuum storage tank under the hood & can look this over, is possible that you have a vacuum leak but if the car has always done this, you likely will have to call it "normal".
