Cigarette lighter on '96 rodeo

When I got my rodeo(used), it was sometime before I realized that the lighter didn't work. I checked the fuses and everything appears to be ok there. I was able to get the front panel off of the area where the lighter is, but I don't know how to get further in to the area to check the wiring and/or replace the lighter altogether. Has anyone had to do this? Any directions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you probe the receptacle for voltage?

Sometimes the element (push-in part) goes bad. Maybe its the wrong element in the first place, ya never know on a used car.

Just a thought.
