exhaust causes loss of power?

right now my 2001 4.8 is stock, but I plan to install the Force II cat-back system from flowmaster (along w/ other mods). but I have heard that this will cause loss of power. i don't plan on taking the truck to the drag strip but at the same time I don't want to lose any power. any help would be nice, and thanks in advance

Re: exhaust causes loss of power?

I had power loss on my 1996 5.7 because of wrong exhaust. I had 2" pipes suck the power back then I put on 2 1/2" works alot better now.

If the kit is made for your engine, than you should be fine.I wouldn't go beyond the 2.5" tail pipes.

exhausted,.....

putting new exhaust on a vehicle can either gain power or cause you to lose it.

too small of a diameter pipe: constricted exhaust gases and less HP's

too large of a diameter: not enough back pressure and loss of power.

without proper modifications to your management system, making any drastic change can rob you of HP's...........

Another thing you may want to watch is gas mileage. Keep a record of your gas mileage before you get exhaust and after and then compare. And as far as power goes: i agree with gtmud ^, just make sure you get the right kit and pipes. Good Luck!
