My blower quit working in my 1990 accord. Is it a major pain to replace? Does the a/c need to be opened (evaporator removed and system recharged) to do this?

Are you sure it's not the switch on the instrument panel? On my '93, I thought my blower/A-C wasn't working, and it turned out to be as simple as the little fan selector on the dash.

Thanks for the reply. The reason I think it is the blower is previous to it stop working, you could smack the blower box with your hand and make it run. Now that will not work.

If you could "smack" it, it might just be a bad connection? Maybe?
I also had a bizarre problem where my SRS light would come on, my horn wouldn't work, and my Cruise control wouldn't turn on. If I hit my steering wheel really hard, they would work until I made a major turn. It turned out to be a loose wiring connection!

To try to tell you how to go about it on here would take way too long to explain. It involves pulling up the carpet and removing the ECU and removing some bolts on the right outer end of the dash. I can do one in less then 1 hour doing it the way I have learned. I was a flat rate mechanic and you always looked for short cuts. Honda has it flat rated at 1.6 hours to do this job (we get 2.5 at our shop). The aftermarket shops get about 3.5 hours to do this. Hope this helps you out. |

I Also have a '90 Accord that the fan will not work, it started where it would come on every once in a while but now has not come on in weeks. I don't think it is the switch because the A/C light still comes on when you turn the fan switch on. Is this something a relatively handy person (but not much automotive experience) can do. Is about $90 a good price for the motor?

I have a 91 Accord and think I have the same problem. When I turn on the AC I can hear/feel the compressor kick in but no air thru the vents. Is this a switch or fan motor problem?

I ended up having the motor replaced at a local garage. The Honda dealer wanted almost 500.00 for the job. I paid 90.00 labor and $175 for the motor. They said they under estimated the job but kept to the quote. Overall satisfied, doesn't sound like I would have wanted to do it myself.

I ended up replacing the blower motor. I purchased a new honda part on Ebay for $30.00. It was not that hard to replace.

I replaced mine last Friday. I pulled one out of a car at a junkyard for $20 and changed it myself. I have a service CD so it wasn't that hard to do.
1. Remove glove box(3 screws) & mounting frame(4 scews). 2. Pull bak carpet 3. Remove 4 10mm nuts from the ECU(computer) bracket that is on the floor and slide it out of the way to the left. You can leave the SCU wires attached. 4. Disconnect the 3 wiring harnesses from the right of the blower 5. remove a ~3-4 screws from blower and 3 10mm nuts. Also remove front metal bracket by sliding the bottom to the left(remember how to put these brackets on 6. Slide the blower down and then forward. Pull the spot where the bottom 10mm nut for the blower was attached out and sort of slide the back of it towards the floor. It is easiest to replace this hole black box assembly instead of takipng it appart and replacing the motor. I pulled the box for $20 at a junk yard. You can hook the blower directly up to the battery to confirm that the blower motor is dead(mine came on SUPER slow when I did this) I finally changed the blower after taking the dash switch out and also changing the relay(neither were the problem). I realized it was the blower when I hit on it and it worked for a few days and then stopped all together. |
