2002 dodge durango
Ok I bought a 2002 dodge durango 5.7 I think. Anyway I have had it for about 5 months now and it has been wonderful except the weak a/c but I don't use it that often anyway. About a month ago I noticed that it sounded like I was starting off in a high gear (very beefy sounding) this came and went never repeating the same time nor place. This morning I got up and it was DEAD!! I thought maybe I left the lights on (doughtfull only drove it in the morning)or maybe my husband turned on a overhead light agian doughtful drove only in the am. I hooked it up to a battery charger for about 20 mins. It fired up BUT wouldn't stay running without my foot on the gas pedal. That has been 2 hrs ago and I have been surfing the net for the problem. One suggestion was to turn the key three times on to get a code which was PdoNe. But to my surprise it started up it flucuated at first then idled around 1. I turned it on several times moved the truck forward and backward and turned it off. When I did this I noticed that there was a staticy sound kind of like the radio off a station but very low sounding. The radio is off by the way. I was wondering if anyone had an idea what this all could be. thanks mindy

I had a similar problem and had to reset the PCM. When the battery dies, and even after a "jump", it will idle poorly and run poorly until the PCM is reset. Even if you put a new battery in it, you will have to reset the PCM.
Here is how you reset the PCM. Open the hood and disconnect the battery (-) negative side. With the cable disconnected, get back in the D and turn the ignition key forward to the start position and hold it for 15 seconds. Release the ignition, hook up the battery and you should be good to go. |

Re: 2002 dodge durango
The A/C problem and the battery problem are different. Have the battery / charging system tested and codes read at auto zone (free).
Then get the A/C checked out at a good shop probably needs recharge. Don't put off the A/C because you don't use it , it also runs in defrost/defog to provide dry air to the window, also the "beefy sound" was probably tha a/c running. The new R134 systems are all alot louder than the old R11 systems. Good Luck. |

Re: 2002 dodge durango
I have a 2003. My ac is also weak. A friend put two cans of 134a in and now it is blowing vapor from the back side of the compressor. Any ideas? Compessor also shut off and on about every 3-5 seconds. Did this before the first can of 134a. Again, any ideas before I take it to a shop?

Re: 2002 dodge durango
You're having some bad luck. AC should be cold, but it'll take extra time over older R-12 systems.
Good luck,
