1997 Ford Expedition ABS & Electrical Problems

I own a '97 Expedition with 119,00 miles. The "door ajar" message will not clear so I have disconnected my battery, this happened today. My radio turns on when it is “off”. Recently I have been having problems with my brakes. When the pedal is depressed it feels like the ABS is engaging. I have replaced the ABS driveline sensor, Master cylinder and the front driver side brake caliper. A few weeks’ back the problem occurred and I had a mechanic replace a pressure relief valve on the master cylinder that corrected the problem temporarily. The valve is not leaking currently and I am having the same brake problems again. I believe that all this may be related to an electrical issue.

Today I drilled a few holes in the bottom of my fuse box under the dash. No water came out. I am currently removing the fuses and will clean with electrical contact cleaner to see if that helps. If anyone has further ideas please let me know.

I also read about replacing the transmission range sensor. Where is it located? I will attempt to replace tomorrow. Thank you for all the help and information.

1997 Ford Expedition ABS & Electrical Problems

Al:

Thanks for the information. I received the same information from an auto parts store. I sprayed the latching mechanism and the "DOOR AJAR" message cleared. I am continuing with intermittent problems with the ABS. Mechanic told me that the circuits on the ECU might be causing the cross signals between the diodes. The issue now is to determine which ones and can they be replaced individually without replacing the entire ABS & ECU.

Thanks again,
John
