Hello everyone,
I was driving down the road at about 65 mph and all of a sudden my car kind of jerked and then just started slowing down almost as if I had just taken my foot completely off of the gas so I pulled over shut the car off and poped the hood to find out that no fuel was going to the engine thought it may be the fuel pump so I checked it, it wasn't working so I disconnected the batter for like 3 minutes and then plugged it back in and then the fuel pump was working I changed the fuel filter as well and I am getting fuel pressure up to the engine now the car sounds like its trying to start normally but it just won't fire up I don't know what to do from here so if any of you have any ideas please let me know! ![]() thank you for you time! josh |

Re: 1996 Ford Escort Tries To Start But Doesn't Fire??? Help please...
Check the timing belt! Sounds like it may have broken while you were driving or you may have lost a few teeth from the belt which throws it so far out of time it won't start.

How did you determine that you were not getting any fuel
when the car first stopped running?? I would agree with GTP dad and check out the timeing belt. Do you know when it was changed?? how many miles are on the car now? |
