what's up with these stock seats?

heys,

I have a 97 civic, and the seats seem surprisingly poor, is that just mine? or a civic thing?

first off, i need more lumbar support than it has. ok, common problem on a compact car, i'd let it slide.
but, the seat is... well the inbaord side lacks support. the reclining latch is on the outboard side, and that side seems to be firm, but the inboard side is slightly more reclined, and gives a bit under weight or when turning.
without a center armrest, it feels like its trying to dump you onto the center console in harder left turns.

now, was the prior owner a 500lb fellow? or is this a 97 civic seat thing?
I could see some people not noticing it, but i have a bad back, its not working out.

I'm trying to figure out if i need to just get a salvage seat, or if that would have the same issues, in which case i'd go for an aftermarket racing seat.

thanks for any thoughts,

Kath

acura seats are better, the GS-R seats are awesome. but it sounds like you are in need of some Sparco Torino seats .

Del Sol or Civic Si seats aren't too bad. BMW M Roadster/Coupe seats would be very nice! If you go with the aftermarket you get what you pay for. Decent seats for the $$$ --- http://www.mmrusa.com/seats.htm

Firstly, welcome to AF.com

The seat issue is general to all 6th generation ('96-'00) Honda Civics. The seats in the '92-'95 models have better support I feel, especially for narrower people. I'm almost ready to swap out the seats in my '00 Civic coupe for the ones in my sister's '95 Civic coupe. But like said above, Del Sol, and Integra seats are much better, have better support on the sides and are more comfortable.

Hey thanks for all the responses guys

glad i finally know that its not just mine. that saves me a lot of phone calls and trips to salvage yards, so mucho gracias

I'm pretty tall myself, but mainly its that my back is in not that great of shape, so the slight left-to-right warping of the seatback really bothers my particular back issues. if the recliner latch were on the inboard side and it leaned back more on the outboard side instead, it wouldn't be so much an issue.

A/C just went out today it's the compressor ...again
maybe i just need a new car?
