Aftermarket Presence
Ive been looking at changing cars, my price range is around 12k so I was looking at all the japanese "halo" cars that were made in the mid 90s- 300zx, rx7, 3000gt, supra. Why does the 3000gt not have as strong an aftermarket presence as the other? On paper, you can hardly tell the difference from a 3000gt vr-4 and a nissan skyline, twin turbo 6 cyl and all wheel drive. Whenever I flip through import tuning magazines i see lots of rx7s, supras, and 300zxs, but very rarely do I see a 3000gt. Is there some reason for this? Or am I just imagining things.

yea, they dont show a whole lot of 3000's in the magazines for some unknown reason, my guess would be because most people wont rice them out. Supra owners generally dump 10's of thousands of dollars in their cars which explains their big aftermarket. Stock for stock, VR-4s are faster than skylines, rx-7s, and 300ZXs, supras will dominate us from a roll, but in the 1/4 mile, its a driver's race.

its because we don't have as many cars as they do and in most cases as much money the supra guys buy their cars for like 30k so you know most of htem have a little spare cash to buy an older car for that much

and our cars are not comparable to the skyline as the drivetrain is phenomenal compared to ours well a vr-4's anyhow

In the States, Skylines are very rare. Aside from that, the number of VR4s sold is much smaller then the others by quite a bit. Though the aftermarket is growing, there are only a few people who actually dump large amounts of money into their cars for outstanding performance. BPU is what most of the modders end up doing (regardless of which car they own).

Dont forget that Mitsubishi has a terrible reputation for dishing out bad cars thanks to DSM. When people consider buying a new/ used car the first thing that comes to mind is Honda or Toyota. the Mitsubishi dealers are always dead. this equals less attention from the aftermarket industry because if you want to make money you have to focus on which cars sell best. the after market for the GTO is pretty huge in Japan, RPS and Auto Select are two companies that have built and campained GTO's for the past few years.

Well I'm no expert! but I have been to Japan alot and I know that the aftermarket is bigger there. As for being junk? I'm surprissed! I saw alot of GTOs and lots fixxed up. I know that the younger generation dosent like em cause you cant drift em. we are quartermile crazy in the U.S., in Japan they are dorifto mad! but the last time I was there was in 99, so who knows how much has changed since then. If you drove out on the coast highway 4 yeas ago, you would of seen tons of GTOs running at night, thats kindda one of the founder memories I have from my trips there, dont pop my happy bubble dammit!

Drifting is a controlled spinout around a corner right? Seems like a dangerous thing to learn! What cars are big for drifting?

well, most RWD are good for driffting, but also they should be well ballanced. this is why NSX, 300ZX and other big RWD cars are not very popular. By far the Silvias (240sx/ 180sx) are super popular. The 85-87 Toyota Corrola GTS is a legendary drifter. also the Miata, RX-7s, Supras, and RWD Skylines. Other good but less seen drift cars are the Lexus IS300, Lexus SC430, Toyota Chaser, Nissan 350Z, Pontiac GTO, Dodge Viper, and in the 4wd category the EVO and the Impreza. There are lots more but it all comes down to the driver. I've seen people drift FWD too like a Civic Hatch or a Celica GTS. and its more than just a controlled skid, it is trully controlling chaos. True driffts are not simply shiffting down and smashing the gas, that a simple power slide, A real good drift is caused by weight transfer, shifting and controlling the weight of the car to loose and gain tire grip. its complicated and I'm not a drifter so I only know what I hear people comment, also we've gone way off topic! sorry.
