Pig in a poke?

Ford Escort 1.6 Si 3 Dr 1997 ( N.Irish Plates which seller wants to keep)
Quite a noticeable surface scratch(s) on corner of rear bumper going towards rear wing and near side wing mirror missing - both caused by an ambulance whose driver denied responsibility. The wing mirror was apparently in the boot but we did not look...the seller thinks it just needs refitted????? Small dent on front of bonnet....again seller thinks it could be easily, cheaply repaired if desired. Some minor stone indentations on doors. Some indications of rust spots (small) but a noticeable patch of rust where spoiler is attached to body. Seller wishes to remove mini disc player which he installed. 45K miles on clock. Some service history available. Parkers Guide - Good - £1635, Poor - £765. Seller asks £1300. Seller is known to us. Comments invited.

I would take it to a repair shop and have a compression test done
on it. This will give you some indication of the condition of the
internal engine parts. Also tell him to have a good look and listen,
a good mechanic will be able to hear with a stehascope possible
problem areas as well. I know it costs extra$$ but it's money well
spent. Everone who is selling a car will always tell you how well it
was maintained but let's face it, if they drove it like a rented mule
would they admit it?? probably not, take it to a shop for check!!
