jdm or usdm

Well i'm full aware of most of the differences between the jdm h22a and the USDM H22A1, H22A4. I'm in the process of swapping motors, (slung a rod, *yes, it was a lack of oil, didn't know it was leaking so horrible..cuz me some slack, i only had it for 2 months* and it's in the shop awaiting for me to purchase a motor and have it taken there) Well, i know the JDM motor will probably cost me a lil' bit more money, but i here that the JDM H22 actually fits in the 4th gen ludes easier than the H22 out of a 5th gen usdm lude. HP ratings are the same unless you go type R or Type S which i wasn't planning on doing either due to money constraints. I can hit up a local junkyard to get a USDM H22, just let me know what you guys think. If i can save the money and still get the same HP i'm all for it. Anythings better than the SOHC F22, i even went looking @ JDM F22's which are extremely hard to come back unless i just suck at looking, just so i can get the extra HP and save some more money. Let me know what you guys are thinking. Anything would be helpful to me at this point, i just want my car back. They told me if i give them an engine by monday, then i will have my car back by friday at the latest.

Re: jdm or usdm

well if u want something faster then the F22 single cam...there's another engine that look's like the h23 that comes on the 4th gen prelude and has the same stats of 160 HP 156 Torque...it's called an F22 DOHC engine (yes there's a f22 twin cam engine) it's a JDM engine that came on JDM 94-97 Honda Accord's but is a direct fit to any 92-96 Honda Prelude by the way it's a 2.2 not a 2.3 like the h23 but look the same and both have the same stats....and the cost of that twin cam f22 engine here is about $500 and $700 with tranny but i'm pretty sure u can use ur same tranny...good luck...

Or you can get an h23a, which is more or less superior, has more aftermarket support, and is much cheaper... JDM h22a's are not that expensive anymore. I have seen very cheap packages off ebay.

Re: jdm or usdm

I think i like the H22 better, for the money i think it's more worth it than the H23 is. If i put an H22 in my lude when looking for certain upgrades pretaining to engine, i could just call it a VTEC, right?

is there a big difference between the 5th gen usdm h22, or the 4th gen jdm h22? The guy at my shop said it would take more time to put the usdm engine in and i don't see why? also the guy i'm buying the engine form said jdm is better. why?

Re: jdm or usdm

Isn't the H22A 200HP? If not which one is... I'm looking to get rid of my peice of crap GST for a prelude, but it will be hard going from 220Hp to 160-200... So, I've been looking for any year prelude with the H22A and low miles. This past weekend, someone told me that I could do a swap on any model for about $3,000 if the car I got didn't have the H22A.

the only difference i can think of is ATTS - don't get a SH motor because you will be spending alot more money in that - you need a ATTS computer - axles... the ATTS unit itself which takes place of the intermediate shaft - and it also relocates the oil filter and uses a different header and exhaust.- if you get USDM get a base model one - if you go JDM then you will probably be spending alot less because most of the time the engines are older. and you will probably get OBD1 which is great too!

I'm sorry, you must have misunderstood. I would be paying $3,000 for the H22A engine plus installation, not for the whole car. My problem's trying to find a prelude with low miles on it. I only make it harder by trying to find a Prelude with the H22A motor in it already. So, I figured I would find a lude with low miles and then swap out the engine with the H22A motor for the $3,000.

Re: jdm or usdm

what gen do you want. 5th or 4th. I bought my '93 4th gen for 2 grand and it's an S model. had 148,000 on it b4 i slung a rod in it, but b4 that it ran great. Point is, look for an older S model if you're planning on swapping engine out. As long as the body is in good shape, have a ball.

JDM Lude "As long as the body is in good shape, have a ball."

Hell, yea. I hear that. I haven't had fun in a while, and I supposively have one of the fastest 4cyls. I can't wait!

I really like the 4th gen better, but I think it will be hard to find a 4th gen with low miles.

Re: jdm or usdm

it shouldn't matter if it has low miles or not. Your engine swapping. Even if the chassis has a lot of miles as long as you take care of minor mechanicals, most of the good stuff will come with your swap.
