2002 Montero Limited To Much Oil
I had my oil changed and took a trip of around 500 miles. When I returned I noticed a clicking or ticking noise from the engine when sitting and running. I called the dealer and they said check the oil. I discovered it had 1 quart to much. I took it back to the lube place and had the quart removed. I still have the noise. 49,000 miles so out warranty. Wonder if extra oil could have damaged my engine???
Thanks Dave |

I'm not sure if this is even something you're still wondering about, but I recently overfilled my Montero Sport by more than just a quart or two. (don't ask--my father already lectured me) I was concerned as well and asked him about potential damage, as he is a mechanical guru. He said he has never heard of serious damage occurring from overfilling, just that it shouldn't be done. He said, in his opinion, the worst that could happen is that the oil level is too high in the engine area and might splash up and around too much, causing some burnoff and a burning oil smell. Again, as a note, mine was HUGELY overfilled and suffered no consequences to my knowledge.

Overfilling the oil will cause your vehicle to blow white smoke and fowl your plugs
