PAINTING ISSUES .. maaco?

I basicly bought a 89 cheerokee limted for 200 bucks and rebuilt all the major parts engine etc. noow i need to throw some paint on it... My father (whom is throwin me some money) insits on me just going to maaco... however i have had some horror stories about maaco... any opinions

If this is a vehicle that you plan on keeping a while I would look else-where for a quality paint job. If you do take it there, give it to them STRIPPED! Nothing on it at all, that way everything gets painted, no trim, lights, basically give them the shell than re-install everything. Maaco has a tendancy to paint and leave "orange-peel" area of"blistered paint that will soon flake off, and rust will set in. Maaco is a place you take a vehicle you want to LOOK good for selling .

how much would it cost for a good paint job if it were primed and all prep work done

Good paint jobs generally run about $1500-$3000, depending, on the paint used, amount of bodywork that needs to be done, any prep work, etc.

If ALL the prep work is done than your cost would be only for paintand labor. the prep work is what REALLY makes the paint job look good, not so much the paint its self. Would recommend a paint/ clear coat application, this will seal and protect the paint as well as your metal. Good luck. send pics.

i have an 87 jeep cherokee that came from michigan and i have recently moved to fla where i'm now restoring the jeeps exterior. mine had alot of rust and so far i got new fenders used for 50 dollars a fender and a rear back door for 80 dollars. i have spent about 18 hours and almost 600 dollars in materials to get it where i'm going to be able to paint it soon. color choice verys the price. for example blues and blacks are generally cheaper. but if u want to get in to reds or salamander colors they can cost too. i chose a red with pearl in the paint and it runs almost 387.00 dollars per gallon and it 87 dollars a quart. the primer is 53 dollars for a 1/2 gallon (ureathane primer 2k).when my jeep is done it would have cost me almost 1200. i use only dupont paints. and top quality primers. using spray can (black primers) for body work only then primer over the reworked areas to ensure that your body work is sealed.

please be aware that i'm the one doing all the prep and paint work so a job like what i'm doing is considered a nut and bolt restro. job if i took it to a shop and had all the paint and prep and body work done it would be almost 5k if u have any question u can e-mail me at [email protected]

ok so say that i got all prep work done and just wanted it painted how much do you think i should spend on a paint job?
