I'm kinda new to preludes and i recently bought one to start fresh . . and with a fast car of course your going to get into street races . . a friend of mine was teaching me certain things about the 96 VTEC lude (same as i bought) becuase he had one also . . but my question is when i hit VTEC in racing i was told to shift right before 7.5 RPM so to shift back into VTEC and benefit from the high RPM range . . but something tells me i shouldnt shift like that because of the stress I'm putting on my motor . . . basically can a 96 Lude take stress in the red zone? Is it smart for me to do this? Is it possible for me to blow my motor? Please hit me back with some info becuase if i f-up this car I'm screwed
Thanks a lot . . sorry for the life story lol ~a |

Re: RPM ranges for 96 VTEC lude ???
Shift at 7000rpm. At 6800rpm if you can, but since the tach is slightly inaccurate, and human reaction is not as fast, 7k is perfect. A stock h22a can take the redline, but it's worthless to be shifting higher than 7k.

Shift however high you need to, to keep you in vtec in the next gear.
Although, Aces is right, peak hp is at 6800 and won't make much more power after that.

you should shift before redline. fuel cuts off at about 6900 or so. you should redline, see when the car feels like it is losing power, and shift before you lose power.
