Question Fan clutch on V8

I have a 93 302 and was wondering if we really need the fan clutch, or if we can put a fan with a fan spacer in its place? I wanted to upgrade the cooling system since it's summer but it seems the style water pump is limiting me...any help is appreciated. p.s. i already have a 180 thermostat

Re: Fan clutch on V8

Scrap the whole thing and go with an electric fan out of an SC or Mk8. Keep in mind they pull a lot of amps and are strong enough to suck small women and children through the radiator. An upgraded alternator may be required and depending on which one you get you may need to modify/fabricate one of the brackets.

Will i have to get a new radiator or anything special? What about the water pump? Can you recommend an alternator that doesn't require a special bracket? Thanks!

Re: Fan clutch on V8

I saw on TCCOA the amp upgrade requiring the custom bracket, which was why i was asking. How much effort will it take to mount up an SC fan? Should i get the radiator also?

Re: Fan clutch on V8

Is there a specific year i should go for for my 93 5.0? There are a couple on ebay, but will a 94 and up fit on a 93 or under?
