Question about motor oil

I changed my oil last weekend and I used the Mobil 1 extended performance fully-synthetic oil. It says it's guaranteed to protect the engine up to 15,000 miles. My question is would you guys really go 15,000 miles before you changed the oil again? I was thinking more like 7,000 or 8,000 miles before I changed it again.

Re: Question about motor oil

First off...if you didnt plan on going the full 15K, why would you pay the extra money for it? The biggest problem you would run into is your oil filter. Sure the oil will take it, but I doubt the filter would if it wasnt a 15K filter. I would never go more than 5K miles on an oil change and I use mobil 1 full synth...things just kinda start running crappy after 4K so I usually do it right at 3.

Re: Question about motor oil

When I first got the oil I was planning on going the full 15k. Then my dad, one of his friends, and my girlfriend all asked me the same day if "I was really going to go 15k without changing my oil". So that got me thinking alittle and I figured I would get yalls opinon on it.

Re: Question about motor oil

royal purple, mmmm good stuff. just thought you all should know that LUCAS is also coming out with their own synthetic oil.

If you were going to use the mobil 1 15k oil, then what filter did you get? if i was going to go the full 15k i would have gotten the mobil1 filter. it is supposedly one of the top filters you can purchase perhaps behind the K&N oil filter.

if you used wix i wouldn't go more than 7.5k miles and if you used a house brand, i wouldn't go more than 3. Synthetic oil generally doesn't get as dirty as regular oil though, so it kinda depends on what you are comfortable with.

The place I got my oil at only had k&n filters and fram filters and........ like a dumbass I got the fram. At the time I was just looking for some full synthetic oil and I seen that the mobil 1 only had to be changed every 15k, so I said why not go with this kind. But for some odd reason the thought of getting a top of the line oil filter didnt cross my minded.
I've heard of royal purple before but I dont remember ever seeing it anywhere, is it sold in must automotive stores(like autozone, pepboys)?
