Getting back into the hobby....

Hello all,
I stumbled onto this forum and I am astounded by the quality of work I see. I modelled alot when I was a teen/young adult, then came marriage and kids and travel with the military, and I just drifted away from it. I still collected kits, I just didn't do anything with them. Now I want to get back into it. I just purchased a Ferrari 330 P4 in 1/24 by Fujima. I also have the PE detail set for it. Additionally, I have a Tamiya Wolf WR1 (1/20), Revell 'Jungle Jim' Monza Funny Car (1/25), and Protar Ferrari 312T and 312T2 (1/12). I hope I can get my skills back at age 50! I have never worked with PE and hope to learn may new modelling tricks here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Later,
Lee

Hi Lee, it's always good to see somebody back to modeling.. i'm pretty sure that you will handle PE very easily, there is no trick and believe me it gives a very realistic touch to our models..

As i can see you like F1 cars, there is a lot of things for F1 cars, just post your car progress build and for sure you'll have all help you need!

Regards

Re: Getting back into the hobby....

Welcome back.

Before starting with P/E, it is important to buy the proper tools. You will need some p/e nippers/scissors, a file for the cut edges and (if funds are avaiable) a hold and fold tool will be a wise purchase.

With p/e, a lot of the time it is about preparation.

Another trick you may wish to consider is annealing the metal first to take out the 'spring' from it.

Let us know how you get on.
