Transmission problems?

Help! I have a 1996 villager with 102,000 miles on it. It runs fine in drive but will not go into reverse. Whe it is put in reverse it whines,and baely moves. Please tell me its not a transmission problem. Any suggestions will be considered. Thanks

I have a 1995 and finally had to get the tranny replaced. Mine would not shift to third, I found a salvage yard that is putting a used one in for me for a total of $ 750.00 thats tranny and labor. Good luck

mine is doing the same thing but instead of just not moving in reverse it takes a minute for it to kick in.....
