cheap HP

anyone know how to increase my horsepower by just a little bit by doing really cheap mods to my engine? now i have a few add-ons here and there. but like everyone else, im always looking for that extra hp here and there. everylittle bit i can squeeze out of my motor will make me happier. if you have any hints and/or tips please let me know.

Re: cheap HP

there are a few free mods that can get you sommers around 50 more hp, according to a couple websites.

if you actually try octane booster, tell me how it went

guy i know kept talking about having a bottle of NOS in his car and lead me to believe it actually had nitrious. it was really NOS brand octane booster... if he was still around i would make fun of him some more about it

Thumbs up Re: Re: cheap HP

well good news, ive use the prestone, 0-60 octane booster. 2 bottles for around 10$ at wal-mart. result? = no real noticable increase in performance or horsepower. a touch more pep in accel. but top speed and hp gain? nahhhhh..... so.. i will keep looking.
thanks.. anymore tips?
-p.s. ive heard of turning a screw in the intake manifold of the 420a n/t which allows more air into the intake, which in turn increases hp by a fraction? anyone Know this to be true?

Re: cheap HP

it would be really helpful to you and everyone else if you look above a couple threads up on for tips and info, these questions have been discussed countless times. search engine on this forum is also very helpful.

i have a 4G63 can't really tell you what else to do. however consider you have a 420a, there really isn't much more to do other than intake and exaust for the amount of money you're looking to spend. you'll prob get more response from other people telling you either slapping on a turbo or selling the car and get a gst/gsx which costs about the same. you might find that response unhelpful however, it's true.

perhaps some Naaawwz will get you somewhere, altho it might require some degree of tune-up of your engine first.

goodluck!

There are quite a few things you can do some of them hurt driveability though. One of the main things is if you have a dremal, some sand paper, and time. You can port and polish well just about every thing. Your throtal body, intake manifold, exaust manifold, and your head.

Then you can hook up a imrpoved grounding system, Check that out here (diffrent motor but it still applies)
http://cloud.prohosting.com/davenger/totalgnd.html

There are some throtal body mods you can do on this page,
http://cloud.prohosting.com/davenger...cheapmods.html

The PCV to breathers mod,
http://cloud.prohosting.com/davenger...breathers.html

Then you could buy a intake spacer (they are like $50) and disconnect the water line hoses on the throtal body. That will keep the intake much cooler and keep the air passing thru it cooler to.

Anthor really big thing you can do is weight strip it, every 10lbs you remove is the same as adding 1hp.

There are lots of things you can do if you have the time and the ability.

Re: cheap HP

Wouldn't suggest porting to someone who didn't know what they were doing. PCV valve either works or doesn't, I don't see any performance there. The water lines that go to the TB don't affect intake air temperature, so they don't affect performance. Sorry, fast and cheap don't go together.
