SC cost?

im looking into getting a SC for 2001 2.4L Z24. GM offers a SC made for my car that is even warranted for 12 months. The SC ive seen for about $2400 dollars. I wanna know how much to have it installed would cost. Is their any place cheaper to buy it at. How hard is it to install on your own. Im just starting to get into cars, but one thing ive realised that bolt ons are just a waste of money, i know how to use tools and follow directions. Also what kind of 1/4 mile time gains should i expect? Right now my engine is crank rated at 150 HP with the SC it will be 190 HP. My best run right now at the 1/4 mile is 16.1 @ 83 MPH, but that was my first time ever racing and i didnt launch very well.

Re: SC cost?

To tell you the truth, an SC should cost around 3500-4k, a supercharger is alot easier to install than a turbo, I think all you do is attach it onto the intake manifold or some place before the throttle body, then bolt it onto your engine somehow the you can attach the belt onto the pulley.

I think your cheap $2400 SC is a waste of money, it only adds 40 hp... I can get more with a nitrous kit or a turbo.

Bolt-on turbos cost about 3k, and add about 70%+ horsepower, that's more than how much your SC adds, how is THAT a waste of money?

Unless you mean that BPU's are a waste of money, try BPUing a supra and race it against a Nitrous'd Mustang, the mustang will lose....
BPU's multiply the amount of HP your future mods give in case you don't know.

IMO, I would say find another supercharger, superchargers rob horsepower at low revs, and that thing only adds 40 hp at THE CRANK (if it was 40 hp at the wheels, it would probably be acceptable), that supercharger will probably worsen your times than if you didn't have it.

Re: SC cost?

Ok, I have just calculated that, your Supercharger only adds 21% more horsepower. A twin screw supercharger adds about 70% and a turbo adds about 75%, you do the math... (someone can correct my calculation if I am wrong)

what about vortech's v-4 xx-trim supercharger, they claim it has 79% abiatic efficiency and has a max boost pressure of 29 PSI, which is more than most people put on their cars.
check it out: http://www.vortechsuperchargers.com/products/units/
