Question i need help finding parts

i have a 1981 firebird esprit, sadly its only a 231 ci v6(buicks i think, i don't really know.) here's my problem, summers comming and i wanted a project to keep myself busy(going to be a senior in high school, and looking to learn all i can about my car and what it can become.) ive been looking around on the internet and havn't really found many performance parts for my car. want i want is anyones idea/opinion/ or comment on what they know about those v6's. i was planning on taking the motor out and completly rebuilding it with all or mostly new parts, redoing the supension, and possibly some more stuff. i don't really want to see a v8 go in there(might change my mind if i can find a great deal). i also got a few questions to ask; does anyone know if the gears are changable on auto trannys. and also if you know of any websites that have lots of info on my car.
any help would be cool.

Re: i need help finding parts

I feel your pain man. I am a junior in high school and have a 1980 esprit of my own that my dad and I are restoring. Ive seen a few posts about 80 and 81 esprits and lack of parts. I know of a website www.nationalpartsdepot.com that has catalogs for our cars, but you will need your VIN handy to order the free catalog.

by the way good luck with that 231 i would also suggest a turbo because it sounds like you're going to need all the help you can get haha.

Re: i need help finding parts

i used to have a 80 turbo trans am when i
was in high school and it was pretty fast.
it was able to smoke the 4.6 mustang,
so i guess that was good enough.
