98 buick gs Transmission question
Did some searching and found a few answers but want to be sure.
This started about 5 months ago with a slight shutter going up a hill then it progressed to a sort of a buzzing or high pitch noise coming from the drivers side of the car looking down at the bellhousing on the right side(toward the windsheild)this lasted for a few months,it sounds like a bad power steering pump. Now as i was driving the car home the other week it shifted into gear real hard at one point on decelaration then when i came to a stop sign,i went to pull out and the car shuttered like a chattering clutch as the car slowed down, then it went away then the car started going again, then about a half a mile up the road the gears started slipping and the rpms went up then i went to pull over because the gears were not grabbing then it started to go again, after about another mile the engine light came on.I babied it home to park it. I tried to drive it the other day,and it was fine then about 4 minutes into driving it the slipping came back and the engine light came back on. Now the car when i start it up goes into gear but that noise is still there and gets louder as the car warms up and the noise subsides somewhat when i put it into gear but when i put it into neutral or park and rev up the rpms the sound gets louder as i give it throttle. Is this a bad converter or is it one of those valves i seen somewhere on here. Does anyone have a pic or blown away transmission chart of these or can someone tell me where these valves for pressure are located or what they look like. Any help would be appreciated before i have to dish the money out for diagnosis on this. |

Re: 98 buick gs Transmission question
Check out the RegalGS.org forums, maybe someone can help you there. I don't remember seeing tranny pics, but it can't hurt to ask.

Common Problem
Maybe if enough of us petition GM about their weak, and i mean weak, 150,000 mile transmissions, we could get some real action. Im gonna say this, most Transmission shops that have looked at mine say they wanted $1200-$1400 to rebuild it, not just fix it, so I say Its prolly in your best intrest to have it rebuilt by a trusted PRO or buy an LKQ one with low miles and just swap them yourself and know that every 150,000 miles or so, you'll be doing it again.
