Performance Exhaust Installation
Hey all, i am going to be buying a Super Turbo muffler and tailpipe from Dynomax and i called around a few places in town to see how much it would cost to have them put it in, and the minimum was like 78 bucks an hour, hour minimum. Then i looked under the car and the factory muffler and tailpipe that i have on it now look like they are just clamped on to other things. The kit says it comes with neccessary clamps and hangers so i figure i can just do it myself. But my question is that will these clamps be enough to hold it on there or is there some hidden welding down there that i couldn't see? Will be able to do it myself by just clamping it on?

Re: Performance Exhaust Installation
Typically, everything is suspended from hangers and nothing is welded to the chassis. Sometimes, getting the clamps loose enough to remove the muffler is difficult due to corrosion. Most muffler shops cut the clamps.
I suggest that before you remove anything, you check the new muffler and hangar positions against the installed one to show you what you need to remove. Remember, shops have lifts. You'll likely be on your back with limited space and leverage. Also, spray the old clamps and hangars with LOTS of WD40 and let it soak. Respray as needed. A propane torch to apply a little heat to the clamps is another option. (Don't use the torch AND the WD40). |
