squeeking from the front end
when I drive my 1996 blazer over about 5 miles per hour, there is a squeeking that comes from the front end. The squeeking gets faster the faster the vehicle goes. If I hit the brakes it goes away. If I shift into neutral and give the truck some gas the noise does not change.
Any ideas what this could be? Gregg

Re: squeeking from the front end
Could be front or rear at this point. When you are coasting down the road flip into neutral and GENTLY apply the handbrake...... LET ME EXPLAIN A LITTLE FIRST BEFORE YOU DO THIS. As you are driving you hear the squeek. Use your left hand and hold out on the break release lever. Use your left foot and gently push and release the handbreak peddle. as you push and release the peddle does the sound change (except for the fact you are slowing down.) If the noise goes away as you depress the peddle the problem is more than likely in the back. If not prob is more than likely in the front.
If in the front could be a couple of things; your brake pads could be down to the wear indicators.(not likely as you do not hear it when brakes are applied) or the rotor is glazed and sounding against a semi or full metalic brake pad. Solution; Inspect the front brakes first if the wear indicator is not close to touching the try breaking the glaze on your rotors using 40 grit sandpaper and lube the caliper sliders. Check the pad for uneven wear. (pad thinner on the leading edge and on the trailing edge, or vise versa) once you have this done if the squeek is still there, I would move to the back and do the equiv job on the drums. Break glaze, and lube the piviot points.

Re: squeeking from the front end
Looking though the rim, the front pads look very low, about a 1/4 inch left on them. I will try your suggestion today with the parking brake.
