Re: removing ignition lock on 91rs
the little tablet thingy is the coded pelled thats part of the VATS ignition security. I dont know what exactly you have to wire to dissable it but its possible.

Re: removing ignition lock on 91rs
well this is a very common problem with the vats system, they just made those wires too small. what you can do, is read the resistance in ohms on that pellet, go to radioshack, get a resistor of the same ohm value, and plug it into the connector at the base of the steering column. this should allow you to start the car.

Re: removing ignition lock on 91rs
to remove the ignition, after the wheel and bag are off.. Pull the small snap ring out off the wheel hub and remove the clockspring.. Take careful note how you remove it, so you can put it back in properly.. After that therel be another c-clip.. this one can be a bitch to get off.. a pair of decent snap ring plyers seems to work.. but you gotta depress the cover plate a little to loosen tension on the c-clip.. After that you should have access to your ignition lock..
If you wanna start the car first.. put the wheel back on and do what 89Iroc suggested

i was wondering if ne body knew the resistance on the pellet , i went to radio shack and this other eltronic store in my area and neither could test it for me |

Re: removing ignition lock on 91rs
well there are 14 different values for the pellet, to prevent just any key from starting the car. so its one of 14 possible values. id take the key to a shop somewhere, and just ask a mechanic to test the resistance fr you with his multimeter. its a no brainer. and he probly wouldnt mind. especially if you thanked him with your friend jackson or something

Re: removing ignition lock on 91rs
well the thing is that all ignition locks are the same. regardless of the pellet, all the lock cylender does is place a circuit across the pellet, that connects to the VATS module. that is what has to be replaced with the correct resistance. so the VATS module reads the resistance of the pellet in the key, that has to match a master resistance pellet inside the module.
as far as finding which pellet you have, the dealership can put the key into a vats interrogator, that will tell you which code 1-14 it is, and therefore the resistance. but seriously dude, this is not that hard, if they have two hands, and a multimeter, they can test it, its just a resistor, you measure the resistance, they dont know how to do that??????? put one terminal on one side of the pellet, and the other terminal on the other side of the pellet, and read the numbers. its quite simple.
