idle air control///help testing

can anyone help me test my iac unit. will it move if you hook it up to 12v

I read a procedure awhile back for changing the TPS that included a blurb about hooking up a 9V transistor battery to move the IAC in and out. I don't remember, however, which leads you needed to connect to. You'd have to experiment. You'll probably have to remove it to see if it's moving.That will at least tell you whether the motor is working or not, but you still wouldn't know if it's moving the proper amount. My book tells me that when you reinstall it, you need to make sure it's not fully extended or you could damage the seat. It says to put finger pressure on the tip and move it back and forth to shorten it. Install and start the truck and let it warm up. When you shut off the ignition after warming up, the ECM resets the IAC. A new IAC goes for about 30 bucks at Autozone. Hope this helps.
