Smile Thinking of CRX dash swap!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm getting a little sick of the way my hatch console looks and I want something that looks awesome. There's a crx in a salvage yard near me that will sell the dash and console for $50. But there are a few questions I need answered before I buy my way into this project. And yes, I have read the how-to on Amy's site.

1. Is the bolt pattern for the crx dash the same as the civic hatch? Are the bolts in the same spots?

2. Are the crx dash and civic hatch dash the same width? No gaps right?

3. The only big part of the dash board I need is the middle part? It's the part that holds the cluster witht the cover and has the vents. Not the part with the glovebox or the top part where the defroster vents are.

4. And if the bottom parts are the same, will the crx console (excluding console bracket) bolt up to the dash where my hatch console bolts?

Any Info would be very appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Thinking of CRX dash swap!!!!!!!!!!!

I just did this a few weeks ago:
1)Bolt pattern is the same
2)Mine sits a little crooked, left side about 1/2" higher than left, gap on right inside by speaker cover about 1/4" larger than left. None of my friends even noticed any of these thing without me telling them, not too big of deal for me.
3)The middle part is actually a few parts, Center vents w/ clock, radio bezel w/ tray, center console
4)On the bottom part (center console) the two screws on the very bottom don't line up with the civic ones, I didn't use them and it is still secure.

I should also note that it was an 88-89 dash I put in a 90 civic which gave me some problems with the cluster and cluster hood, make sure you get the appropriate year, that will save you a few headaches.

Re: Thinking of CRX dash swap!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info! Maybe there is a little difference with the dash out of the different years. Luckily though, this dash corresponds to my year and is blue too so It'll match my interior. Has anyone else done this before?

Re: Thinking of CRX dash swap!!!!!!!!!!!

i was witness/help for a friend of mine who swapped a 88 CRX HF dash (blue) into his 88 civic STD hatch (blue). it bolted rigth in with no problems whatsoever.

Make sure you get the complete dash from the CRX including all vents and the center console.

That's good to know that it bolts right up. Was your friend real happy with the swap?

Re: Thinking of CRX dash swap!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to hear someone else is interested in the swap too! Oh, I was meaning to ask if anyone has picks of this swap in their car? Would give me a good idea of how it'll look!

Re: Thinking of CRX dash swap!!!!!!!!!!!

i had a crx dash in my 89 4dr, it fit good but needed to trim a 1/4in or so off the curve the fits the windshield and also when it meets the a pillar it was about a 1/2in gap but it still bolted right up and looked good.

Re: Thinking of CRX dash swap!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm really looking forward to this swap so I'm going with it! Thanks for all the replys!

I did want to ask that can I use the part of the dash that my glove box and coin box are on? If so, I'll only need the top part, correct?

Yes, I used my hatch ones because the CRX ones I got were trashed
