What turns the coolant fan on, a sensor?

My coolant fan is not coming on in my 96 with 2.0. I noticed come of occationally, but I've had over heating problems. I changed the water pump, 2 thermostats, sending unit. It doesn't overheat when driving now, but gets pretty hot when parked, I then noticed the fan was not coming on. Is there a sensor somewhere that turns it on?

Re: What turns the coolant fan on, a sensor?

In general, electric fans are controlled by a relay. The computer controls the opening and closing of this relay. Various sensors feed the computer information on when to operate the fan--coolant temperature sensor, A/C operation, transmission vehicle speed sensor (cut-off at 40+ mph), etc. Blah, blah, blah.

Go grab a Haynes manual for $16 and start trouble shooting.
