no spark no fuel

i have an 87 gmc surburban 1/2 ton 2wd 5.7 fuel injected. the other day i went to the store got what i needed to and came out. got in the burb and tried to start it and all it did was turn over. i took the air cleaner lid off and the coil to dist. wire off and it had no spark and no fuel. after i towed it home i started to dig in to it. i have checked all of the grounds, fuses, and i replaced the ingintion switch. i am thinking that it is a ecm but i don't know. i also know that the fuel pump doesn't turn on cause i can hear it when it does.
thanks chris

In a rush, I have glanced at some wiring diagrams for the '87s. It looks to me like the fuel pump is controlled by the ECM, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it occurred to me that there is a collision safety switch somewhere under the dash that is supposed to kill the engine in the event of a collision. Maybe all you have to do is reset it. I am sure that the switch will kill the fuel pump, but I am not sure it kills the ignition, however.

It looks like you may have a corroded/broken fusable link around the starter area. Look in that area, pulling on the wires to make sure they are not broken inside the rubber cover/shrink. Good Luck.

No spark, no fuel is likely the result of the triggering used by Gm vehicles. The ignition module is responsible for both. If the fuel pressure is present, it is likely a module related issue, but troubleshooting remotely is difficult. The trigger signal tells the computer when to trigger the injectors, with a ground signal, it is also responsible for ignition until the engine starts. Once the engine starts, this signal is used by the computer to advise of triggering and rpm signals. Ray

no spark no fuel

To let you know this just happened to me, but I had spark so double check it is not very fast. I connected a spark plug on a wire. On to the fix. Every one here said fuel pump. sounds good to me burb died would fire with fuel down air intake. replaced pump it worked, for about 10 minutes then I had to drop the tank again. (hate that part) I found the connection inside the tank (4 wires two for pump two for gage) in bad shape inside connector (gray wire lead for fuel pump. I recommend you use a couple jumpers to test pump off of battery source (remember if it turns fuel will spray stay up stream) before anyone buys a new pump.
