You just need to have somebody to teach you. I suggest you get a rental car for a day and learn on that. No use destroying somebody elses car.
BTW - Wrong forum.

find some guy and have him teach you in his car or pay someone. go to a local driver's ed center and find out. if you know how to drive an auto, I don't see how it's destructive to learn on a manual w/o renting a car. back in the days, manual is all you had.

I didn't teach anyone, I learned from someone. And even that, on a '90 300ZX in 5-10 mins. And that is why I could say it confidently. However, it may not be the same experience for everyone. Since then, I feel constrained driving an auto whenever I have to. And I think I'd have no problem teaching anyone as long as the person is willing to listen attentively w/o unnecessarily revving and playing with the RPM.

i'd still recommend finding someone to teach. The key here is the presence of a person who knows how to drive a manual tranny. Because - though it's not the same, but you wouldn't go and steal a car thinking you can drive it when you never driven a car before.
The term better is subjective. But look around, most racing cars are manual trannys (except for drag cars may be). I don't have to tell you which one is fun for me. It used to be that when auto tranny blew up, it'd be expensive to fix, but that price has been reduced over the years. If you're the type who gets tired of driving a manual after a while, then don't get a stick. You gotta love it first!

I believe your question has been answered, and this has nothing to do with car comparisons. Closed.
In the future please adress your questions in the proper forum section.
