Insurance Purposes

Iv'e been looking around at many different dealers and located a few nice stealths...turbo's being the nicest. But my insurance would be about SEVEN GRAND!!!! if i bought the 320 hp model. And only about 3 grand if I get the 164 hp base model. But I had Probe GT 164 hp that smoked base stealths...not the kind of performance Im looking for. I need the twins! But they wont be stock ones. So I want to know if it's possible to make a base stealth, or even a R/T (222 hp) and drop a twin engine/trans in it. Because I heard that it is cheaper/easier to put aftermarket turbos on a twin charged engine, rather than N/A right?? But I also want to know if it's possible to switch it to AWD, AWS, 6-Speed. But Im thinking it would give me a great sleeper look. I totally understand how far-fetched this sounds, and I would laugh at me too. It's not the money in buying it...it's about the robbery the insurance company will beat from me. So if anyone could me in creating my dream car it would be incredibly great!!!!

Re: Insurance Purposes

is that $7000 a year, or $7000 every 6 months?

Re: Insurance Purposes

I'd rather pay 7000 to the insurance company than spend all the money you'd have to spend to do that to a base model Stealth. If you do that I'm thinking it'll cost you close to $20,000 plus the price of the car itself.

Re: Insurance Purposes

Well 2 things: A) yes all of that is possible and has been done a few times, but not very practical as you will need more than just the engine and tranny, you will probably need a donor TT car just to get all the parts. If you are interested in these conversions, I know that they have some people on www.3si.org and on the 3000gt part of this forum that have done them and would be happy to help you.
2) 7,000 is ridiculous, mine was first quoted at 5k a year, now I got it down to 3k. I suggest checking out some of these with your insurance company to see if you can get a lower rate.
A) shop around for insurance companies
b) take defensive driving course($30 and 6 hrs saved me 10%)
c) get the VIN etched into every window
d) get good grades if you are still a student and show a report card or some proof of them to your provider, they equate good grades to lower-risk for some reason and they might provide you with a cut
e) lie and tell them you have day-time running lights
f) aftermarket car alarm
g) pay insurance in 6month increments, not every month(progressive gave me a $250 discount for doing this, but I had to call them and ask for it)
h) if you have another car, you can insure that car as your primary car, and your TT as you secondary car.

So call your provider/insurance company and ask what all you can do to get lower rates. You have to specifically ask because most times, they will just take your money and not tell you that you qualify for deductions. Oh, also if anyone in your direct family is in the armed services, I think they offer discounts. Good luck and go for the TT.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.
