Things to look for on 1991 Geo Metro

I have recently bought a 1991 Geo Metro with 181,000 miles. Just wondering what any of you would do first to prevent any problems that you all have had with these cars.

It is my first Geo Metro and just looking for some advice on things to check under the hood.

auto or manual? original engine?

Very first thing to do is check for rust where the front control arms attach to the frame.
